Eating out in Wanaka

With some amazing adventures to be had in and around Wanaka, it’s important to stay fuelled. With so many delicious dining options in Wanaka, we even find it hard to choose where to eat.

So to make it easier, we’ve compiled a list of our favourites – new, old, and everything in between, to help you plan and choose where to dine on your next trip to beautiful Wanaka.

Higher $$$:

Bistro Gentil

For those romantic dinners and top wine pairings, Bistro Gentil sits within Maude winery, a stone’s throw away from the heart of Wanaka. Offering a modern French dining affair, this quaint bistro brings together all the best bits of French cuisine and pairs it with incredible, award-winning local wine.

Kika

The delicious Kika sits tucked away from the main street but isn’t hard to find given nearly every local will have enjoyed a meal here. Focusing on tapas style sharing plates and with flavours from across the globe, Kika is a delectable spot for those special occasions (or just to treat yourself!).

P.S. We heard Gordon Ramsey dined here and decided it was good enough to write home about.

Mid $$:

Paloma

The funky new kid on the block! Paloma recently opened and can be found at the end of The Precinct laneway opposite Wee Tart. Fast becoming known for their delicious South American inspired tacos (with house-made tortillas) and festive cocktails, Paloma’s beautiful tiled interior and stunning tequila bar promise a fun time in central Wanaka.

Federal Diner and Fedeli

Tucked down an alleyway on Helwick Street, Federal Diner and Fedeli (opposite) is a local’s favourite for the very best coffee, always tasty food and the friendliest staff. Usually able to seat walk-ins during the day, their sister cafe/deli offers beautiful cabinet food and fresh, seasonal and sustainable dishes for take away or to enjoy in their stunning courtyard.

Lower $:

Red Star

After a quick and incredibly satisfying dinner? Red Star is located on Ardmore Street and has been serving gourmet homemade burgers since 2004. With over 25+ burgers to choose from (dine-in or take-away) and a top-notch selection of Wanaka’s finest brews to wash them down, Red Star always satisfies the troops.

Brownston Street Food Truck Market

Caught a sunny day and want to stay outside? The Brownston Street Food Truck Village is hard to walk past. With around 6 trucks offering mouthwatering flavours from around the world (Mexican, Italian, and Asian Fusion to name a few), there is nothing better than sitting by the creek with delicious food and the sun on your face.
